Database management Enhancement

Since 2006, Tong Yang Group adopted the new ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)
 
solution, the database has continued to grow and the database performance is not as good as expected.  The users’ complains are often received. Given so, in Q2 2008, it started to planning how to improve the issue of database performance.

As a global corporation, 80% of Tong Yang’s business revenue is coming from oversee orders.  Tong Yang in these years continues to establish factories in many countries such as US, Thailand and China.  Heading toward to the globalization, it need adopt a total solution which is even more complete and reliable in terms of database performance to satisfy the group’s globalization expansion.

Difficulties and challenges

The monthly grow of new data volume is about 30~40G at Tong Yang.  Its first priority is to maintain reliable and speedy performance database processing, and at the same time to downsize the ERP database space in advance to lower the cost of storage equipment.  Once the new system is adopted, any abnormal operations or orders lose are ever not allowed in the period of system transition.

The first corporation successfully adopting and running DBA in Taiwan

Traditionally IT people will upgrade hardware to solve the problem of database storage.  However, it is really a brand new learning experience to Tong Yang to utilize new software technology to improve the database performance, cost down the storage equipment and in line with the regulation requirement.

Initially the Tong Yang’s IT people did a serious evaluation between “buying new storage equipment” and “Adoption of new ILM software”.  At the end, it seems to be the best solution to adopt HP ILM software in consideration of the Group’s long term demand and cost control at the whole group’s best interest.
