AdvancedTEK started with 3 people and grew quickly to 350 people within 10 years...

AdvancedTEK International Corporation was founded in 1998 by Mr. K.C. Wang in Taiwan. Mr. Wang founded this company based on the fact that he had a strong passion to help people resolve problems. The company was founded in a small, old building at the time, but has relocated to a large, new professional business building. In 2000, Dr. Chin-En Lee, who was a professor at a prestigious university in Taiwan, became the Chairman and was determined to lead AdvancedTEK to become a leading international consulting group to the ranks of Big-4’s of USA. He left his permanent post at the university, but still teach on a part-time basis. ‘Big 4 can, why Chinese cannot?’ has been Dr. Lee’s motto since the very beginning. Dr. Lee believes that if we can uphold values such as trust, perseverance, and professionalism, and advise our customers with our valuable experiences and best practices, then AdvancedTEK will indeed become a prominent consulting group and also be a great place for our consultants to grow, learn, and contribute.

Professionalism, Trustworthiness, and “Think in the customer’s shoes”

Dr. Lee holds high standards for himself and his consultants. He believes in : “Put in your best effort in whatever you do” and this attitude is shown on his constant care to the consultants, customers, and business partners. Such can-do attitude has won many praises among the industry and scored points on the yearly business evaluations. Two of AdvancedTEK’s most outstanding recognition were the Oracle ERP implementation consulting services and the education training center that have trained over 10 thousands consulting professionals.

Workplace is like a school – focuses on team work, freedom, and respect.

All employees call the Chairman “Teacher Lee”, as that is how he was called at the university. Dr. Lee is still a teacher at heart and treats his employees like students. By providing constant care and advice to his employees, Dr. Lee creates a win-win working environment. Dr. Lee emphasized that good leaders need to keep close relationships with the team members and provide advice and assistance at any given time needed. In order to lower the ‘wall’ between consultants and managers, there are no offices for the consulting practice; everyone sits in an open seating area and work side-by-side regardless of the ranks.

Consulting is a complete work stage

J.L. Chuang, an ex-employee of Big-4 and currently the VP of AdvancedTEK, has been with AdvancedTEK for about 4 years now and resisted several job offers because he enjoys the working environment. J.L. Chuang said “Because management is open-minded and welcomes new and improved changes, I was able to work with businesses in different industries and work with different people within the firm. Each project is similar to a MBA program’s case study; however, the difference here is that this case study is a real-live project in the business world. I am very happy that I joined AdvancedTEK because I have the opportunities to train many professional skills and contribute in different ways”.

Emphasis on retaining good people and career advancement

‘Resource’ is the most important asset in the consulting business. AdvancedTEK has a tradition to carefully select, train, test, utilize, and retain resources; thus, the resources bring steady growth and expansion for our businesses. Since 1998, 6 out of the first 10 employees of this company are still currently with the company and that speaks volume for itself. Dr. Lee said that consultants have many opportunities to growth within the company, for example: learn different technical skills, pick up different product knowledge and know-how, manage projects or teams, develop new businesses or new products. Once the consultants have about 5-7 years of experience in the industry, they will become the leaders and be tremendously helpful in sales, marketing, development, growth, and expansion of the company.

Dr. Lee said that it is very important to select ‘talent’ in the resource management area of consulting. Professional knowledge and know-how are the basics; having a well-rounded, healthy mindset is even more important. He believes that a capable consultant is like an all-purpose basketball player that can play all different positions during a game and can step up to the challenges and win a ball game for you. He emphasizes that having a right and good working attitude would assist consultants in adapting to different project environments and serve the customers with good EQ.

Dr. Lee’s secret in leading a group of all-star consultants is to create a good working environment and atmosphere, pay attention and care to the employees’ emotions, provide employees freedom and responsibilities, and respect employees thoughts and recommendations. He believes – “If there is no happy consultants, then there is no happy customers.”

In the end of 2007, AKCUA Management and IT Professional Consulting Group was formed after approval from the Taiwan Economics Affairs office. This consulting group is consisted of five different companies and AdvancedTEK is the leader and main member of this group. As this alliance is formed, the group can provide complete solutions and services in the areas of information technology, management, resources, production automation, and online education and training. With the belief that Chinese consulting firms have advantages in understanding local business practices and needs over the foreign consulting firms, AdvancedTEK mission is set out to be the life-time consulting partner to enterprises in the Greater China region.
